Encouragement

It’s hard to believe I’ve been here for four months already. The time has gone by quickly. As I struggle through all the normal bits of a cultural transition; loneliness, grief and loss, constant change, and on, I am continually sure of one fact:

“For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

Language school has been one of the most encouraging and constant things about my life here so far. The teachers are great, and even though it sometimes feels like I’m in second grade again, I know they want me to succeed.

My second source of encouragement has been the local body of Christ. Both the Khmer and ex-pat communities. Starting afresh takes time anywhere, but as the weeks move on I am supprised by the relationships that have started to grow.

At the beginning of April, my roommate Vicky, and I moved to an apartment in a quieter part of town. We are excited to begin to get to know our neighbors and to feel more settled in this country. We are closer to our Khmer C&MA church and the young adults who attend.
